Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope this message finds you and your family well as you enter into the summer weeks!
First of all, as the incoming superintendent of Lamar County Schools, please know how excited I am to be able to serve the students & families of LCS. My family and I are extremely excited about making Lamar County our home. I am thankful to the school board for allowing me this opportunity and grateful to the many of you and the LCS staff that have already welcomed us to the area. 
After receiving feedback from many of you and our teachers, we polled our district staff about looking at the academic calendar for the 2025-2026 school year and trying to modify it to have the school year end prior to Memorial Day. The response was overwhelmingly in favor of that change. Due to that suggestion, I have recommended and the school board has approved a revision to the school calendar for the upcoming 2025-2026 academic school year. The new calendar reflects a change in the school year start and end dates. School will now start on Thursday, July 24, 2025, and conclude prior to Memorial Day. (Please note that the soft start split now only applies to students K-5)
These adjustments were made with careful consideration and in what we feel is the best interest of our students, staff, and families. We believe this change will provide a more balanced school year and allow families to begin their summer plans without conflict. The updated calendar will be shared through our district website and communication channels (also linked below in this post).
